Who We Are In May of 1975, a few brothers gathered together to establish weekly Islamic School and a Mosque for the growing Muslim Community in the Flushing area. Alhdamdulillah (Praise be to God), Muslim Center has completed over forty four years of it’s community services. With humble beginning in a rented apartment at 41st Avenue in Flushing, the Muslim Center came into existence. The Muslim Organization of North America appointed Brother Mohammad Tariq Sherwani as the first administrator of the Center, and three other brothers as Advisors. The first general body meeting was held on the first Sunday of November 1975. It was decided to incorporate the Center so that it may function independently. On the first Sunday of January 1976, the first Executive Board was elected with the following 13 members: Syed Anwer Hussain – President, Anis Ahmed Baig – Vice President, Mohammad Tariq Sherwani – Secretary, Syed Mobin Ahmad – Treasurer, M. Shamsheer Ali Baig, Ebrahim S. Lunat, Syed Shahid Ali, Mohammad Haider Imam, Mozaffar Hussain, Muzaffar Qureshi, Kamal Ahmad Khan, Mumtaz H. Khan, Muhammad Hussain.
