ABOUT Tawfiq Islamic Center​ (TIC) is the first and the largest Oromo Muslim Mosque and Community Center in North America. We are based in twin cities in the State of Minnesota, USA. We have over a thousand families that we are serving in person through our different programs. We also have an online presence through our television called Oromia Islamic Television. Through this tv, we reach tens of thousands of Oromo Muslim audiences living around the world. Tawfiq Islamic Center is a religious, educational and charitable nonprofit organization registered in Minnesota under chapter 317A and 501 c (3) IRS Compliant. It is a nonpolitical organization established to serve the Muslims and other peoples living in Minnesota. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND The Oromo people are the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia and they are believed to be the second largest group in Africa. Some members of the Oromo Muslims, who arrived in Minnesota in early 1990s, felt the need to maintain their religious and cultural identity. Finally, after many efforts, the community bought Masjid Tawfiq in 2004. Since 2006, Masjid Tawfiq is known as Tawfiq Islamic Center, and in 2007 it became a Faith-Based organization with 501 c (3) IRS Compliant. MISSION The mission of Tawfiq Islamic Center is to promote Muslim individual and community development through social and educational programs in light of the Quran and Sunnah​.   VISION To establish a community which is well educated in the Holy Qur’an and authentic sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH) and which: ​ Have strong faith in Allah, obedient to Him and His Prophet, and respect those in authority ​ Are united by the bond of Islamic brotherhood, at peace with themselves, with other communities and with their environment. ​ Are mutually supportive, socially, politically and economically sound and enlightened. ​ Has elaborate and strong leadership, with clear roles, responsibilities and succession plan.
