Mission To be an exemplary community based upon the Prophetic model, reflected in the American context, that seeks to enhance inward excellence and outward service to the community. Vision To help change the direction of our lives as a community from looking and working for the fleeting to looking and working towards the Eternal. To help each and every person seeking the path laid down by God and illuminated by the Prophet and handed down to us by the practice of our rightly guided predecessors. We desire to be the most beloved of communities to our Lord, and we seek His grace through education, service, building strong families, youth development, and community outreach. Our History The New Brunswick Islamic Center, Inc. is a non-profit, community-based organization that was founded as Masjid al- Huda in 1987 by Imam Zaid Shakir, then a graduate student at the Department of Political Science at Rutgers University. The original home of NBIC was the corner of Remsen and Comstock Avenue. In 2011, we moved to our current location, 1330 Livingston Ave in North Brunswick. The New Brunswick Islamic Center is a place of prayer open for the five prayers, but we also provide classes, social forums, and social services, including zakat collection and distribution. The American Muslim population is among the most diverse in the world, and at NBIC we have always valued the unique perspectives and experiences that each believer brings to our congregation. The community served by NBIC is very diverse, and our organization places a priority on maintaining an environment that is welcoming and inclusive to all Muslims. We welcome participation in our activities from the entire community regardless of gender, ethnic background, or age.
